Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need to bring my instrument to school on the first day?

    Posted by:

No. Mrs. Sims and Mr. Curtis will tell you when to begin bringing your instrument to school. The first few days we will get to know each other and go over our syllabus, handbook, and expectations.

We will assign instrument cubbies and school-owned instruments before we begin bringing instruments to school.

  • Do I have to carry my instrument around with me all day?

    Posted by:

No. Every band member will store their instrument in the band room each morning when they arrive to school and pick their instrument up at the end of the school day before going to car line or bus pick up. We will assign instrument cubbies in the first few days.

  • Am I allowed to be in band with no previous music or band experience?

    Posted by:

Absolutely! Our Beginner Band Classes are meant for people with no experience at all! Mrs. Sims and Mr. Curtis will teach you everything you need to know to learn how to play your instrument and read music. As long as you come to our class with excitement about learning music, you are in the right place.

  • What if I do not have an instrument yet?

    Posted by:

Beginners: If you came to an instrument petting zoo in February or March, you should have received some paperwork about how to acquire an instrument. If you did not come to our instrument petting zoo, then Mrs. Sims and Mr. Curtis will help you pick your instrument assignment in the first week of class. After you have selected what instrument to play, we will give you paperwork to take home that explains where and how to purchase your instrument.

School-owned Instruments: If you are one of the students that uses a school-owned instrument (Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Baritone/Euphonium, and Tuba players) you also do NOT need to bring your instrument on the first day of school. We will go over procedures for your instruments once you return, and get those assigned to you.

Note: If you play Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, or Percussion, and you are unable to provide your own instrument due to finances, please let Mrs. Sims or Mr. Curtis know as soon as possible by emailing us using the emails provided on our LMS Website. We have a few resources we can reach out to in these instances. We NEVER want finances to be the reason a student can’t participate in band!

  • What is the best way for our family to receive regular communication about band?

    Posted by:

In Band, we use a system called CutTime to keep up with fundraising efforts and to send announcements to families throughout the year.

Returning students: Your CHARMS information has been transferred to CutTime this summer. However, please note that CutTime communications come as a link sent via text message, not as an email. Therefore, please look for a Google Form sent via email this summer to update your information. For now, we only need parents to fill out this form.

Beginner students: We will help you set up your CutTime account in the first week of school. Once we have set up each student's account, we will email your parents to get their information added to your account.

Parents: Please make plans to attend our first Band Parent Booster Meeting on August 26, 2024. The meeting will be at 6:30 pm in the LMS Band Room. We will go over how to use your student's CutTime account to make sure you are receiving communication as well as to teach you other beneficial uses for your CutTime account.
