• We have many food allergies at MES. In order to keep our children safe, here are some guidelines we follow:

    1. At this time, food treats are not allowed to be sent from home to share with the class for birthdays. Other non-food options can be discussed with your student's teacher. (Another option is to purchase ice cream from the lunch room. Please email your teacher first.)

    2. All treats sent to the classroom for sharing (holiday parties) should be store bought with a clearly affixed ingredient label.

    3. Children should bring their own snack from home. Classrooms have a "no food sharing or trading" policy. Desks will be wiped down after snack time and children are encouraged to wash their hands with soap and water or use wipes (not just sanitizer.) Disposable wipes are used on tables in the lunchroom after each class leaves as well.

    4. Notification:  Copies of your child's allergy and anaphylaxis emergency plans are available to teachers who "need to know" and their substitutes. Letters are sent home to parents alerting them to the allergies present in their child's classroom. Allergy aware signs are placed outside of each classroom as well as signs/symptoms of anaphylaxis within those classrooms.
