    Welcome!

In August 2025 Women in Red is once again focusing on women in film and stage. We hope both inexperienced and seasoned editors will join us in creating biographies and other articles about women in various countries, as well as their achievements, works, organizations, and awards. This virtual editathon allows enthusiasts from around the globe to participate.

You are of course also welcome to add articles on any other notable women, for example under our #1day1woman priority.

The main goals of the event are:

    • to encourage inexperienced editors and show them how they can contribute to Wikipedia by creating biographies of some of the world's most prominent women
    • to draw the attention of more experienced editors to the need for concerted action in combating the systemic bias against the coverage of women and women's works
    • to promote the new/improved articles and images through social media

    What else?

    • Below, you'll see a section where you can list the articles you created this month and another section where you can add the images you have uploaded to Commons.
    • If you share any of the articles or images on social media, please indicate you have done so next to the article name.

    Thank you!

Redlists (lists of redlinked articles to be created)

    [edit]

We have red-link lists on women from relevant fields and countries, which can be found in the WiR Redlink index. A selection of those which might be most useful for this priority is listed below.

These red-link lists are either drawn automatically from Wikidata (WD) or are crowd-sourced (CS).

    Works by women

    • Films directed by women (WD)
    • Plays written by women (WD)

Actresses by country of citizenship (WD)

Note: for those listed in the Dictionary of Women Worldwide, some corresponding entries may be found at Encyclopedia.com or, for access to all, by signing up for the Wikipedia Library's free bundle and then using this search option.
