A Message from JVS Superintendent

January 7, 2020

As I write this, we have officially left 2020 and are moving into a new year. For many of us, 2021 represents hope. It’s a new beginning after the seemingly endless upheaval of 2020.  I am optimistic that we will find our way back to a normal way of life, but keep the lessons of everyday compassion and community from 2020.

I am incredibly proud of the family we have at the Lorain County JVS. Last year, I watched our teachers, staff, and students rise together during a global pandemic and make the best of an impossible situation. Their industrious spirit kept us moving forward when we all questioned how we could deliver a career-technical education in a virtual world. And from safely connecting with isolated nursing home and hospice patients to making donations of food, plants, and equipment, our JVS family showed us what the word community means.

On top of all this, I watched them work tirelessly on Issue 18, a proposed permanent improvement levy for our school. While I am disappointed that the much-needed levy did not pass, I know it was not due to a lack of trying. Thank you to all of those that sacrificed their time and energy on the campaign.

On January 19, our students will be back in the building under a hybrid learning model, and we are thrilled to see them again. Their energy and excitement remind us why we chose careers in education. I am looking forward to seeing their progress and success for the rest of this school year.

Thank you, and stay healthy!
