Information needed to enter the Upcoming School Plan
Goal #1
- State your goal. As a school, we will “decrease” the percentage of students in the below level category on the HMH Growth Measure Assessment by 20% from the beginning of the year to the middle of the year assessment. This assessment is given three times a year to students in 2nd through 6th grades.
- Add Academic Areas. Select the academic area(s) this goal will address.
- CTE (Career and Technical Education)
- English/Language Arts
- Library/Media
- Add Measurements. Our goal will be measured by the HMH Growth Measure Assessment which assesses students’ reading comprehension levels. Students are given a reading LEXILE range when they complete this assessment. Students are then identified as below grade level, on grade level, or above grade level. This assessment is given three times a year. Birch Creek Elementary is working with students to get them college and career ready. Reading, writing, and technology are critical in this effort.
- Add Action Steps and Expenditures. List the specific steps of the Action Plan to reach this goal. Each expenditure must be included in the Action Plan Steps. Explain how/why it is needed to implement the Action Plan.
- Action Plan Steps will be entered by number.
- Paraeducators will teach Tier II instruction 160 days for 5 hours a day. Four aides, at approximately $19/hr + benefits will cost $63,482.
- Research-based programs will be used for 4 paraeducators (see #1), instructing our at-risk students in each grade level. Kindergarteners will receive instruction in the Early Reading Intervention program for 30 minutes daily. Our 1st and 2nd grade students will receive Reading Mastery instruction for 30 minutes daily. 3rd grade students will receive Corrective Reading instruction for 30 minutes daily. Finally, our 4th, 5th and 6th grade students will receive 30 minutes of Corrective Reading and/or Rewards instruction daily. Classroom teachers and paraprofessionals will progress monitor our at-risk students a minimum of once every two weeks.
- Classroom teachers will integrate a variety of fluency practice with their classes using the following programs: Fresh Reads, Read Naturally, 6-Minute Solutions, and A-Z Fluency Passages. Teachers will use computer software subscriptions including: Scholastic/Reading Counts, Starfall, and Follett (approximately $4,200). They will also encourage our school’s goal of reading a minimum of 20 minutes nightly, and reinforce this by integrating Reading Counts for individual student motivation and goal setting. Reading Counts is a computer-based program in which students read books at their individual reading level and take computer-based reading comprehension tests. Students receive “points” for how they perform on these assessments. Students are able to earn different rewards based on their point totals. Additionally, classroom teachers will integrate technology into their instructional practices to help with reading and writing practice (14 Computers=$10,920; 14 Monitors= $3,458; 8 TV’s/Projectors=$8,400; 6 Long Throw Projectors=$3,600; 5 Sound Systems=$2,600; Computer Software=$1,400; Total = $30,378).
