• Hello Canyon Family,
Hope this finds you staying healthy and stress free! Ok, just kidding, I know that stress free is not the theme of this past year, but I do hope you are staying healthy and finding good ways to manage your stress.

I want to take a moment and introduce myself.

My name is Crystal Coria and I am the new school counselor. (yes, I have been here since October and have been trying to write this since November, lol)  I've already had an amazing time getting to know your children and look forward to getting all their names down. There's a lot of kiddos in this school so it may take me a minute, tho.

I was born and raised in Ogden, UT, went to highschool in CO, college in NE and then worked in ND, SD and eventually ended up back in CO working at the highschool I had attended. In 2014 I moved back to UT and worked for the Department of Child and Family Services for a few years then moved on to work for an Foster care agency.  While I was working at the Foster care agency I was able to go back to school and get my Masters in Social work.

During the 10 years I spent in CO I worked in a girls dorm, I had 65-70 young ladies (9-12 grade) living in my dorm every year for 10 months.  It's funny because looking back I remember starting the first few years thinking "I got this, piece of cake, can't be harder than last year!"  What I ended up learning is that the normal day to day stuff stays pretty close to the same but every year brought a different feel to it based off of the girls that ended up in my dorm.  Each one bringing their own unique story, personalities, beliefs and struggles.  After 3 years I stopped saying that and just jumped in knowing that the girls that were there were supposed to be there were there and that I would do the best I could to build relationships and provide a supportive environment for them to learn and grow. And that is what I plan on doing here at Canyon, too.  Each one of your kids brings with them their own personalities, culture and experiences.

My passion has always been to provide a safe place for kids to be able to share what they are going through or feeling and be able to grow from those conversations. I believe strongly that for a child to be able to do that they need the people in their lives to work together.  So if you have questions or concerns about your kiddos please feel free to reach out to me.  I'd love to talk to you and help in any way I can.   My email address is crystal.coria@ccsdut.org and my phone numbers are 435-792-7799 ext. 2537 or 801-917-4960
