Message from the Principal
“Be courageous. Be kind. Be YOU!”
I am excited to enter my 2nd year as the principal of Oakwood School! Reflecting on my first year, there is so much to celebrate including, but not limited to, the following that we collectively accomplished last year:
- 1st year of full day Kindergarten
- Integration of Creative Play in the Kindergarten schedule
- Hiring and training of 24 new staff members
- Implementation of Differentiated Instruction time in our schedule
- Addition of Differentiation Specialist
- New Early Childhood playground
- New ELA Curriculum
- Family Nights for our EC parents and students
- Classroom Parties
- Field Trips
- Music Shows
- Field Day
- Great student growth for our youngest learners
- Initiation of Parent Coffee Chats
Due to the influx of students entering preschool, we are eagerly opening another Early Childhood classroom this year! We have also hired an additional Speech and Language Pathologist who will have a shared role between Oakwood and River Valley to help support our students who need more support with their speech and language development.
My main hope and goal for the 2023-24 school year is to continue to build relationships with our students, parents and staff throughout the school year. I would love to informally meet with anyone who is interested in connecting so that I can listen to you and gather input so we can make Oakwood even more amazing than it already is! Simply call or email to set up a date and time. Additionally, Mr. Talaga and I are offering opportunities for parents to share their input through our “Doughnuts with the Principals” events. Finally, one of our top goals as a school this year is to implement a strong Tier 1 PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) system that involves positive reinforcement and encouragement, explicitly taught and modeled expectations, and school-wide rewards.
Making sure that students are at the center of every thought, conversation and decision is at the core of my philosophy. All students can and will learn. Every child who enters the doors of our school will be loved and cared for. They will feel welcome and supported. Having five children of my own, I know how much your children mean to you and I will make sure that they feel safe and are treated as my own children.
Go Bears!
Mrs. Georganas
