Summer Programs

For students ages 2 months through grade 12, Lamar CISD has a variety of enrichment opportunities that extend beyond the traditional classroom. From summer reading, STEM focused camps, and our Back to School Block Party, Lamar CISD has a FULL summer of enrichment programs planned!

Summer Reading Challenge

 

Description

We are excited to announce the LCISD Reads Summer Reading Bingo Challenge. This year we will be having TWO challenges in ONE!

Challenge 1 will run from June 1 - June 30 and Challenge 2 will run from July 1 - July 31.

Students will use Beanstack to track their reading progress, complete reading activities, and earn badges for a chance to win prizes!

Random prize drawings will take place every 2 weeks. Students are entered in the drawing for every 4 badges they earn. Each challenge has 12 reading badges and 4 activity badges. There will also be an additional BLACKOUT drawing for students who earn ALL badges in each challenge. Drawings will be posted on the LCISD Libraries Facebook page. Emergent Bilingual Summer Inquiry Camp - Bentley

 

Description

During this four-day camp, students will participate in an inquiry-based project about national parks. They will also research and create art projects while turning their classrooms into "National Park visitor centers." The camp will include a visit from park rangers from Brazos Bend State Park or a similar entity and students will learn more about the job of a ranger and be able to interact with animals.

Dates: May 29, June 3-6

Location: Bentley Elementary School

Eligibility: For LCISD Emergent Bilingual Students currently enrolled in Grades K - 5 at Bentley Elementary.

Title III STEAM Language Academy

Description

Students will have the opportunity to participate in a weeklong interdisciplinary engineering program. Students will participate in multiple projects that challenge and stretch their knowledge of the science TEKs. They will develop academic language proficiency as they work collaboratively to solve various engineering challenges. Students will explore several academic fields related to engineering including physics, aerodynamics, mechanics, and electrical systems. All lessons are sheltered using the Talk, Read, Talk, Write lesson format and are aligned to the TE Ks, ELPs, CC Rs, and TA TE Ks. Emergent bilinguals will be able to utilize the four domains of language acquisition (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) within each project to address federal and state language acquisition standards and goals.

Nuclear Camp

Description

Are you interested in learning more about possible careers using science and math this Summer? Would you want to learn about nuclear physics and it's applications in nuclear medicine? Join us this Summer to participate in hands-on activities designed and provided by the Texas A&M Cyclotron Institute. Included is a field trip to College Station, to visit the Cyclotron Institute on the Texas A&M campus. It's gonna be a blast!

There are 2 sessions available, however, students may only attend one of the sessions listed below:

  • Session 1: June 17   – June 20
  • Session 2: June 24   – June 27

NOTE: Students may only attend ONE camp session.

Eligibility:  For LCISD students entering 7th, 8th, and 9th grade in the 2024-25 school year.

STEM-Tastic Camp

Description

Come learn all about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math! Camp experiences will include hands-on curricular activities, potential field trips, team building, guest speakers and fun! Activities have been specifically designed for current 5th and 6th grade students to maximize the fun!

There are 2 sessions available, however, students may only attend one of the sessions listed below:
