McNeill became an official chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society during the 2012 - 2013 school year. McNeill was the first and only elementary in LCISD to establish an Elementary Honor Society. Since the 2015-2016 school year, a handful more elementary schools have chartered an NEHS chapter.

National Elementary Honor Society holds high expectations for all fourth and fifth-grade members. Students must first qualify by excelling in their academics and demonstrate leadership and positive behavior inside and outside the classroom. Community service projects, both inside and outside of school hours, are considered, in addition to in-school duties such as Safety Patrol, Media Team, and Library Aide. The Faculty Council reviews all NEHS applications and makes the final determination whether a student is invited to join the prestigious National Honor Society.
