• Let me introduce myself. My name is Jennifer Gilliland. I was born and raised in Eastern Washington. In fact, my father's side of the family are original homesteaders from Molson, Washington, and have lived in the state for nearly 100 years.

I graduated from Ephrata High School and attended Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in English Literary Studies. Soon after graduation I began working for a small newspaper in Quincy, Washington, where I was a writer and graphics designer.

There I met my husband and we married in 1997. On the day of our wedding, I also became a step-mother to my daughter Melissa. Almost three years later we welcomed our daughter Nikitta to the family. Life has a way of changing the world around us and I had to stay home with my daughter until she was nine months old. I then decided to return to school to obtain my teaching certificate from Central Washington Univeristy in Ellensburg, Washington. After receiving my certificate, I worked as a substitute teacher. I worked the 2004-2005 school year at Wenatchee High School. In June of 2005 we welcomed our son Hunter to the family.

In August of 2005 I was offered the job at Kiona-Benton City Middle School teaching 8th grade English/Language Arts. I taught there for three years. In the fall of 2006 I started my master's degree through Grand Canyon University. I finished in 2008 with a degree in Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Reading. Then in the fall of 2008, I moved up to the Kiona-Benton City High School where I have been teaching since.

I look forward to many years in this district.
