PTSA Programs

Our PTA is focused on providing many enriching learning opportunities during the day as well as after school.

Class Act program:  The Class Act program is a partnership between The Pacific Symphony and Hawes, funded by our PTA.  Our school has a "Musician in Residence" assigned for the school year who comes and teaches all students (by classroom) about his/her instrument as well as about the Symphony selected composer of the year.  The program encompasses the following events through out the year:  Prelude Assembly, Classroom Lessons, Family Night Concert, Pacific Symphony Concert Field Trip for grades 1-5, Interactive Music Experience for Kindergartens and the Bravo Assembly, which is an all school celebration of our learning.

Accelerated Reader:  Through a joint partnership with our PTA, students in grades 1-5 utilize the Accelerated reader program to improve reading comprehension.  Students are challenged to meet a comprehension goal of 85% and to earn a specific amount of points that are determined for each student.  Students can access reading books through the AR room, a PTA sponsored library staffed with volunteers.  Parents can receive email messages that include a student's progress on  quizzes by signing up through:

Accelerated Reader (AR) Renaissance Home Connect

Art Explorers:  This hands on art experience includes a grade level assembly focused on an artist and then individual class lessons in which students create a masterpiece aligned to the artist.  These assemblies/lessons are scheduled throughout the year.

Recess equipment:  Through the generosity of our PTA, additional equipment (chess, balls, jump ropes, hula hoops, Legos, blocks, and more) are available for all students at recess time.

Our PTA hosts and funds many additional programs and activities throughout the year.  Some of the purchases include:  Chromebook carts, iPad carts, the electronic marquee, a new sound system for our lunch area and activity room, school folders, teacher supplies, field trips and our Mac Lab.  Events are scheduled throughout the year and include:  Back to School social, Hawktober Fest, Red Ribbon Week, Secret Shopper, Book Fairs (September/June), Spring Fling, Sports Day, Staff Appreciation and more!

Through the coordination of our PTA, fee based after school programs are also offered.  Please click on the program you are interested in to view the flier containing specific information. Please see After School Programs for more information.
