ABOUT WHS

  • Wicksburg High School is a 7-12 school located in the Western corner of Houston County, Alabama. WHS serves a rural community that takes tremendous pride in its school. Wicksburg’s population is growing, and the school’s excellent academic reputation is a large factor in that growth.

“Striving for Excellence,” the school’s motto, is embraced by faculty and students alike. High School students follow a rigorous curriculum. Each student takes yearly courses in the core subjects of Math, Science, Social Studies, and English/Language Arts. Wicksburg also offers a variety of electives meant to supplement these core subjects. High School students have the opportunity to receive college-level credits by enrolling in honor's classes offered in several subjects. Dual-enrollment classes are also offered through local colleges for students who wish to get a head start on their collegiate career.

There are extracurricular activities in the Wicksburg community for students of every age. High School students can join a variety of special-interest clubs and community service organizations including FFA, FCCLA, FBLA , Chess Club and Senior Beta Club. The award-winning Golden Regiment Band and the WHS Chorus provide superior exposure in performing arts. Both Middle and High School students may try out for athletic teams such as cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, golf, football, softball, and baseball.
