Please find the important takeaways from the Town Hall meeting on 5/25/21 below:
- Dr. Jay McClain shared a presentation regarding the plan for the 2021-2022 school year and how that will look for both in-person and virtual learning. A copy of that presentation can be found below.
- The deadline for applications for virtual learning consideration is 5/28/2021 by the end of the day
- In elementary schools, there will be less flexibility for a student to begin one way (virtual or in-person) and then switch to the other; if families find themselves in need of beginning one way and changing to the other, each instance will be considered on a case-to-case basis
- In secondary school (Carter G. Woodson and Hopewell High School) there is more flexibility -- however, families are still encouraged to deeply consider each option before making a decision
- We are still seeking guidance from the CDC and VDH on mask and vaccination requirements
- As of now, students must continue to wear their masks through the end of this school year, and no students or staff/faculty members are required to receive the vaccination
- It is preferred that students remaining virtual use a Hopewell City Public Schools Chromebook
- This is because needed technology is already available on these devices
- Carter G. Woodson Middle School will be working on an event for rising 6th graders -- stay tuned!
- An event for rising 7th-graders who did not see the building last year is also in consideration
HCPS will be holding regular Town Hall meetings as we head toward the first day of the 2021-2022 school year. We hope you can join us, and we will keep updating you as more information unfolds.
