Please be aware of the following policies that will be enforced once we return from Winter Break.
1. When we return to school on January 6th, 2025 the new policy, aligned with State and Local Government mandates, takes effect. The policy directs that all personal communication devices must remain off and away (or in a pouch) at all times. Any items that fail to meet that expectation will be confiscated and the student will be subject to consequences.
Personal Communication Devices are defined as any of the following items:
Cell phones
Tablets and e-readers
Personal (non-HCPS) laptops/Chromebooks
Handheld gaming systems/consoles
Smart watches
Bluetooth devices, including headphones
Consequences for violating the new policy will progress as follows:
First offense - item confiscated, verbal warning, and parent notification
Second offense - item confiscated, parent pick-up only
Third offense - item confiscated, parent pick-up only, student will be required to be searched daily upon arrival to school, ISS assigned
Fourth offense - item confiscated, parent pick-up only
Fifth offense - item confiscated, parent pick-up only, student will be required to be searched daily upon arrival to school and banned from bringing any PCDs on campus, OSS assigned
2. Public Notice: Face Masks Policy in Hopewell City Public Schools
To maintain a safe and secure learning environment, the Hopewell City Public Schools dress code policy prohibits students from wearing Hoods (on heads), hats, or face masks (that covers more than the mouth and nose) inside school buildings, during regular school hours, unless required for religious or medical reasons. This policy is in place to ensure clear communication, safety, and security for all students and staff. It is also a violation of Virginia Code 18.2-422 to wear any mask, hood or other device whereby a substantial portion of the face is hidden or covered.
