The Science Department sets as a priority for its science program the development of science literacy across major science disciplines, as well as promotes the development of basic inquiry skills necessary for success in the specialized high school science courses of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
A primary focus is the fact that careful observation and analysis is the root of scientific reasoning. Our course coverage also acknowledges and incorporates quantitative and computational skills of mathematics, the skillful use of written and oral communication skills, the application, immersion, and influence of science and technology on societal issues, and the application of science and technology to the arts. These are equally important aspects of what a scientifically literate person in the third millennium needs to know.
Course content, instructional methods and assessment techniques attempt to be consistent with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and the National Science Education Standards.
