    Foundations of Medicine

    This is a foundational course that provides students with the opportunity to become competent health care workers. Integrated academics combined with healthcare knowledge and skills provide the framework for the course. Topics to be covered in the course include medical language, communication skills, legal and ethical responsibilities, safety, healthcare team and patient diversity, professionalism, and emergency procedures. 

    Orientation to Medicine 

    Students will learn the historical significance of medicine that has led to our modern day medical practices. This is an introductory course that provides students with the opportunity to explore different areas of healthcare and personal skills needed to become competent health care workers. Integrated academics combined with healthcare knowledge will provide a framework for the course. Topics to be covered include medical language, communication skills and professionalism, human growth and development, disease processes, and students will investigate a few of the top healthcare professions. 

     

    Honors Human Body Structures and Functions

     The course is organized to follow a logical sequence of the systems of the body with an emphasis on disease and disorders. Students will become acquainted with various levels of organization of body structures and functions. The course of study will prepare students in grades 11-12 for a multitude of health-related careers. The course includes laboratory dissections of different body systems and incorporates hands-on learning with Anatomy in Clay Manikens (R).
