2021-2022 School Year Welcome From New Director Ms. Guzman - GTA Schools

Dearest Students, Families, Teachers and Staff,

It is an honor to introduce myself to you as the Director of Mare Island Technology Academy Middle School and MIT Academy High School. Over the past 24 years, I have served as a Spanish bilingual teacher in elementary and middle schools, an English Learner Services teacher coach and district level manager, as well as vice principal and principal in public school districts in Philadelphia and throughout California. I look forward to meeting each of you and discovering the strengths and talents you bring to our school community.

This past year has been extremely challenging for families, students and educators across the globe. Although the pandemic is still in effect due to virus variants, California has fully reopened and soon, Covid-19 will be behind us. The good news is the majority of teachers and parents are fully vaccinated. With children 12 and older eligible to get the vaccine, we are hopeful many MIT students will be fully vaccinated by the beginning of next school year, which is August 16, 2021.

Many teachers, parents and students are excited to return to school in person in August and we are equally excited to offer in-person learning again! I am ready to begin working with each of you to reconnect with our students and strengthen their skills to ensure they are on the path to becoming college-ready. Our focus will continue to provide rigorous instruction and individualized support to each of our students.

Equally important to academics is a focus on social and emotional wellness. As we rebuild our community and school spirit, I look forward to fostering healthy relationships through communication and respect to ultimately create a culture focused on teaching and learning to fully support students and adults.

I come to this organization with great enthusiasm, pride and gratitude. I am eager to work together with you to revisit our school vision and to create new mission statements for the upcoming school year and beyond. Please join me on Zoom next Monday, July 19 at 5:30 PM (details to follow in a separate email) for a virtual meet and greet where you will be able to share about yourself, your experience at MIT and your ideas for our school’s future.
