The following information was announced after the Closed Session of the Griffin Technology Academy Board of Directors Meeting held on Tuesday, November 10, 2021:
“In a roll call vote, the board unanimously approved the closure of the MIT campus for tomorrow at a minimum, out of an abundance of caution due to new information received today regarding the safety of some of the facilities. The Board directed Dr. Martinez to notify our students, families and staff with more information tonight.”
This notice is being provided to inform all MIT families that the Board of Directors directed Dr. Martinez to close both Mare Island Technology Academy Middle and High Schools located at 2 Positive Place, Vallejo, on November 10, 2021.
We have initiated the repairs to the MIT campus, and have also begun to dive deeper into the identified black organic matter that was recently identified to be in need of remediation. Given the initial findings of this deeper analysis new information was shared with the Board of Directors at the meeting tonight, which has led to this decision. Students were already not expected to be on campus on Thursday and Friday of this week.
We will be providing additional information on Wednesday afternoon regarding next steps for students to receive instruction next week.
Dr. Robert A. Martinez, Superintendent, Griffin Technology Academy
