This afternoon, the late activity bus from GJH got This afternoon, the late activity bus from GJH got stuck when it backed up. No one was harmed and the students were soon transferred to another GCS bus and taken home.

Last night the new Kid Council and Kid Mayors were Last night the new Kid Council and Kid Mayors were announced at the Goshen City Council meeting. There was a tie for the Kid Mayor position so this year we have two, Calla Hobbs and Whitley Gwaltney.
The Kid Councilors are Ezra Shenk, Jones Lehman ( not pictured) Lucas Graber, Lydia Jordan, Victoria Serrano, and Camilla Gallardo.
We are so proud of these amazing kids and can't wait to see what they do in the spring!
GCS appreciates the City of Goshen for creating a GCS appreciates the City of Goshen for creating a way for community members to support our students. At the Mayor’s open house, you may donate to the GCS “Angel Fund” that accepts donations (any time) to clear negative lunch balances for students.

Mayor’s Holiday Open House
The open house is at City Hall on Thursday, December 19th
City Employees: 1:30 – 3:30 PM
Public: 4:00 – 6:00 PM

The Angel Fund assists families struggling with medical issues, those who have experienced a sudden loss, or others in similar circumstances.
Some families may also have incomes that are just beyond qualifying for free or reduced meals but because of circumstances, still struggle with expenses.
(Despite negative lunch balances, it is GCS practice to always offer every student a meal every day, regardless of lunch account status.)
Daily breakfast and lunch cost between $4.15 - $4.65 per day, so a donation of just $5.00 can help cover the cost of two meals per day for a student!

GCS offers sincere thanks to all who make donations to benefit our students and families during this holiday season!

Ron Mack is a custodian at Goshen Intermediate Sch Ron Mack is a custodian at Goshen Intermediate School (GIS) whose responsibilities include the cafeteria. He takes the trash out after every lunch and helps to clean up before, during and after the lunch periods. However, he does more than custodial work. He spends time interacting with students. He moves around the cafeteria, talking with students, telling them jokes, or asking them riddles. If they manage to answer a riddle correctly, or do the right thing, he gives them a little plastic duck. The kids are always asking for "Mr. Ron" to come to their tables. They want to hear what he has to say, and try and earn a duck.

One Friday, he was setting up a small display in the display case near the cafeteria. When asked what he was doing, he said, "Just putting it up for students to look at. I hope they enjoy it." Mr. Ron is retired from the United States Postal Service, and he works at GIS because he enjoys being at the school. He likes seeing the kids and their happy smiles.

Thanks, Mr. Ron, for choosing to work at GIS, taking the time to get to know students, and making them smile. You are appreciated!
This morning, the National Junior Honor Society se This morning, the National Junior Honor Society served breakfast to the GJH staff before school. Students greeted staff at the media center, served them, sat with staff to chat, cleared tables to make room, called out teachers and staff members' names when they entered, and even delivered donuts to cafeteria staff who could not make it to the media center.
This is what the students chose to do. They suggested the idea to NJHS sponsor Joe Vance on Monday, organized it, and pulled it off by this morning. Great job, students!
JA BizTown (in Elkhart) is actively looking for a JA BizTown (in Elkhart) is actively looking for a few more volunteers to help with one more day of activities with Goshen Intermediate School students next Wednesday, Dec. 18. This is a rescheduled date after a visit was canceled due to snow. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Rachel Hughie at rachel.hughie@ja.org
The time commitment is only 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and it is a lot of fun! You will receive training from 9:00-9:45 a.m., and the BizTown staff is available all morning to help answer questions.
Another group of GIS 6th graders were at BizTown y Another group of GIS 6th graders were at BizTown yesterday, taking on roles such as CEO, CFO, managers, production workers, bankers, and more! BizTown is the culmination of classroom lessons on how businesses work, learning about how to be a good employee, taking responsibility, getting a paycheck, and managing their own personal finances. BizTown stores, utilities, banks, etc. are managed by groups of students led by volunteers from the community, including GIS parents and staff from GCS. It is a great way to see how business works and practice many of the things they have already learned in class.
It was a great day!
