California’s Higher Education Sector Includes Three Public Systems: 

• University of California (UC) 
• California State University (CSU) 
• California Community Colleges (CCC) 

There are also more than 150 private, nonprofit colleges in the state, the majority of which are members of the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU). In addition, roughly 200 institutions in California are private and for-profit. In total, California’s colleges and universities enroll more than 2 million students from all different backgrounds.
