The Germantown Central School District commemorated the completion of its brand new, state-of-the-art auditorium on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by school officials, past and present Board of Education members, students, staff and community members.
Plans for construction of the auditorium were developed as part of a capital project referendum, which was approved by the community in 2015.
“It has been a long road,” GCS Superintendent Benjamin Bragg said. “This auditorium, and capital project as a whole, is an example of what a community can accomplish together when we collectively work on behalf of our children.”
To create space for the auditorium, athletic fields had to be relocated on campus. Construction began four years after community approval with a ground-breaking occurring in 2019.
The auditorium will be used for drama productions, concerts, events, and high school graduations, as well as class meetings and extracurricular activities. Prior to the completion of the auditorium, the cafeteria was used for many performances and concerts.
In addition to the auditorium, new music classrooms were created in the new wing and are currently being used by students in the Jr/Sr High School.
