Voters will elect candidates to fill two (2) open seats on the Board of Education. Both seats are for four (4) year terms beginning in July 2022. The following candidates will be listed on the ballot in the following order (as determined by random drawing): Andrea Foley, Lester Olsson, Lynn Polidoro.
ANDREA FOLEY
Aside from being away in the US Army for a few years, Andrea Foley has been a resident of the Germantown school district for 28 years. She began in Germantown Central in 8th grade and graduated proudly as a Clipper! Her daughter, Adrianna, graduated from GCS and currently has two young Clippers in Pre-K and first grade. Andrea served on the Germantown Town Board for 4 years and the Germantown Parks Commission for several years. She is currently a proud member of the Germantown PTSA. Since her oldest daughter was old enough to play town sports in 2007, Andrea has served as a coach, a board member, or both for the Southern Columbia Little League and soccer teams. Andrea, along with her fiancé Peter, actively coach soccer and baseball for their youngest Clippers, Colton and Hayden. Andrea looks forward to serving the community for many years to come and would love to serve the people and students of the Germantown School District as a member of the Board of Education.
LESTER OLSSON
Les Olsson has served on the Germantown Board of Education for the past 6 years, including the last year as president, and has been committed to transparency and communication to the community. He is a long-time resident of the Hudson Valley, having been raised and graduating high school in Red Hook. Les attended public schools and state colleges and is a life-long learner and a reader. He worked as a fruit farmer and construction worker for 13 years before switching over to IT security. He and his wife moved to Germantown in 2003 and have two kids that attend Germantown Central School (currently 12th and 8th grades). Les hopes to continue to help the Germantown School District meet new demands of the changing community, while preserving the best of its traditions.
LYNN POLIDORO
Growing up in Yonkers made it easy to cultivate a deep appreciation for the Hudson Valley. The history, the view, and the farms have always been an inspiration to me. In 1988, my husband and I purchased a Center Hall Colonial house in Germantown. We have been renovating and homesteading ever since. In 2002, I began teaching Secondary English at GCS. I was fully committed to supporting the district and meeting the challenges of educating our youth. I have recently retired from teaching and realize that 20 years of experience not only brings insight to the challenges presented to our district, but it also brings an ability to illuminate distinct advantages. For my aim, as a BOE member, is to bring the assets GCS has to offer to its full potential. For these reasons I ask for your support and vote in the Germantown Central School BOE election.
