We
have had a lot of questions this year about the Common Core State Standards for math, what they mean and what they are. Our new math curriculum, Eureka Math, is closely connected to those standards. We came across a great explanation of the Math CCSS that we thought parents might find useful.

Veneta Elementary School will be accepting teacher requests from May 23rd thru May 31st. Requests must be completed on the official form. The form can be picked up at school or by clicking here. Please note that while we try our best, we can’t guarantee that we will be able to honor all teacher requests. There are lots of factors that teachers consider as they put together class groups to make sure classes are balanced and cohesive. Continue reading

There will be a concession stand. Families can bring blankets/pillows to put on the gym floor to sit on during the movie. We will also have some chairs available in the back of the gym.
Children should be accompanied by an adult. Please do not drop children off and leave them unsupervised.
Thank you to PALS for organizing and running this event. Thank you to the Fern Ridge Community Library for helping to sponsor it.
A few weeks we announced that we had to temporarily put on hold teacher requests until we had finalized teaching assignments for the 2016-2017 school year. There were/are enrollment issues and budget issues that had to be resolved before we could determine how many classrooms we needed at each grade level. Until we know what our grade configuration will be for 16-17, we could not assign teachers.
The good news is that it looks like those budget and enrollment questions will be resolved in the next few weeks, which will allow us to finalize staffing decisions for 16-17. Our new plan is to notify families on May 23rd of teaching assignments for 16-17. We will then accept teacher requests from May 23rd thru May 31st. Teacher requests must be in writing and made on the official form. While we work towards honoring as many requests as we can, we cannot promise to honor all requests. Requests must be written positively- parents must request who they want for their child and not who they don’t want.
Classroom assignments will be posted the week before school starts in September.
If you need a teacher request form, you can click here to get it.
If circumstances change and we cannot at least tentatively assign teachers to grade level assignments, we will notify families. Thank you for your patience.

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 2nd through May 6th. We are extremely lucky to have the great teachers that we have at Veneta Elementary
School. Each and everyone of them cares deeply about their students and is dedicated to their job. They put in countless hours at school and then even more hours at home preparing for school.
This is our time to say thank you to them and to let them know how much we appreciate what they do and how well they do it. Take a moment this week to write a note to your child’s teacher thanking them for all that they do or help your child write a note. Teachers become teachers in the first place because they want to make a difference in the life of a child. If there is a teacher who has made that difference for your child, take the time this week to let them know that their hard work and commitment paid off.
