This Tuesday at 12:30 we will break ground on a major renovation of Veneta Elementary School. Over the next six months, we will add a new cafeteria, six new classrooms, a new bus loop, and extensively remodel the offices and library. Before we move forward with the new, we thought it would be fun to look back. Here is a picture of what Veneta Elementary School looked like in 1970. Continue reading

Due to construction, Veneta Elementary School will have an early release on June 12th for first through fifth grade students. School will dismiss at 11:45 AM for 1st through 5th grade students. There will be no PM Kindergarten. AM Kindergarten will dismiss at their regular time of 11:00. This applies only to VES and is not a district wide early release. 5th Grade Promotion will still be 8:30 AM on June 12th.
This summer All About Art will host a summer program at the Veneta Community Center integrating art and science. There will be two sessions. Bats, Bugs, Frogs, and Bogs will run from July 6th to July 16th and Night Creatures will run July 20th to July 30th. Each session students will learn about the natural world around them. In addition to learning, they will also create art projects like bat mobiles or paint t-shirts or sketch in a wildlife sketch book. These workshops are being taught by local artists and educators Annette Rothweiler and Alex Lanham. The two week sessions start run from 8:30 to Noon. Your child also has the option after the session to get a free lunch at the summer lunch program. The cost is only $45 per a session. Information about the program was sent home with the students May 18th. Space is limited. Scholarships are available. They will even provide healthy snacks. To register online go to http://lanearts.org/allaboutart2015/ or call the Lane Arts council at 541-485-2278 for more information.
Registration packets for 2015-2016 will be coming home on Monday, May 18th. Parents are asked to update their child’s information and return the forms to the school by June 1st. If your child will not be returning to Veneta for the 2015-2016 school year, please send us a note or call to let us know. It is important to us to have accurate numbers as we start to plan for the 2015-16 school year.
Parents who return their updated registration information by June 1st have completed the registration process. Parents who do not return their forms have to register their child in person August 25th through August 27th.
We are very excited about the changes that will be happening at Veneta Elementary School over the next seven months. They include a complete remodeling of the office area, a remodeled library, a new addition with six classrooms, a new cafeteria, and a new front entrance. Plus during the summer of 2016-17 there will be a major overhaul to our parking lot with the long awaited and much needed separate loop for bus parking.
Of course all of that construction is going to impact how we do business while the remodeling is happening. Continue reading
