Financial Aid

To apply for federal financial aid (grants and loans), complete the following steps:

1. Obtain a Student “Federal Student Aid ID” and a Parent “Federal Student Aid ID”

2. Gather the following needed items:

• Your Social Security Number
• Your Alien Registration Number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
• Your federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned. (Note: You may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.)
• Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
• Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
• An FSA ID to sign electronically.
  If you are a dependent student, then you will also need the above information for your parent(s).

3. Complete the “Free Application for Federal Student Aid”

In this application, you will list the colleges that you would like to send this information to. After they receive and process it, you will receive information from their Financial Aid Office directly about offers for grants and loans.

Computing your GPA for the semester: Add the value of your grades. Divide the total by how many classes you have. Grades not used to figure your GPA are P, CR, NC, S, and U.

Report Cards are issued four times a year. Only semester grades will be permanently placed on your transcript.
1st Quarter	September 8-November 5, 2021
1st quarter report cards will be handed out in Advisory.
2nd Quarter 1st Semester	November 8, 2021-January 28, 2022
2nd quarter report cards will be handed out in Advisory.
3rd Quarter	February 1-April 8, 2022
3rd quarter report cards will be handed out in Advisory.
4th Quarter 2nd Semester	April 11-June 17, 2022
4th quarter report cards will be mailed home by the end of June.

 

 

Pass/Fail
Elective classes may be taken for a pass/fail grade with teacher permission prior to 2nd/4th quarter. Required classes taken pass/fail must have the approval of both the teacher and the principal. No more than one class per semester may be taken pass/fail.

Post Graduation Options

CAREER? SCHOOL? WORK? MILITARY? APPRENTICE?
Studies show that a person with education beyond high school earns more money in his or her lifetime than someone with only a high school diploma. The job market for non-college graduates or those with NO technical training is extremely limited. Sometimes high school students assume that further schooling means four years of full-time study at a college. Not so. Today students can choose from a wide range of postsecondary options. Brief explanations of each are provided below.

APPRENTICESHIP PROGAMS
Apprenticeship is a thorough, systematic training program that uses a combination of paid on the job training and classroom instruction to teach an individual the skills of a particular craft or occupation. It is a three-way partnership between an employer, an apprentice and the sponsoring association. There are over twenty-five apprenticeship programs available in the State of Washington. Information is available on line or in the counseling office.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE OR TECHNICAL SCHOOL
Students earn either an Associate of Arts degree that may be transferred to a four year institution, or receive certification in a career or trade area. Program length varies, but is not usually more than two years. A list of all community and technical colleges and the programs they offer is available in the counseling office.

MILITARY
Like apprenticeship the military offers on the job training and education. Most military jobs have a civilian counterpart that enables enlisted personnel to obtain employment when they leave the military. Many branches also offer the opportunity for free college credits as part of the military training. Individuals interested in college may want to consider ROTC as a way to finance their education and begin military life as an officer. CWU's Running Start Program
Running Start is an opportunity for high school students to earn college credit. Running Start students may use CWU courses to fulfill high school requirements, get a head start in college, or explore academic interests. The Running Start program at CWU is intended for motivated and responsible high school students. Eligible high school students can earn college credits without the expense of college tuition. Through the Running Start program, students have the opportunity to take courses that may not be offered at the high school, including a wide range of elective courses. Many students appreciate the academic challenges of college course work and find that the experience eases the transition from high school to college and helps to clarify educational goals.Central Washington University's Cornerstone Program offers highly capable students the unique. Schedule Changes
Schedule changes are made based on a student's post high school planning. Schedule or class changes will be considered on an individual basis during the first three (3) days of first semester and second semester.

All students must take six classes. Students dropping a class after the first and third quarter will receive an "F" on his/her transcript. Any exceptions must be appealed through the Principal.

Student Athletes

Athletic Participation
In order to participate in the athletic program at Ellensburg High School, a student must:

1. Meet all current WIAA and school district requirements including:
a. Be under 20 years of age on September 1 for fall sports, on December 1 for winter sports, and on March 1 for spring sports (WIAA 23.12)
b. Be enrolled as a "regular member" of the school (i.e., half time or more) (WIAA 23.13)
c. Have passed at least five full-time subjects in the immediately preceding semester/trimester (WIAA 23.14)
d. Be enrolled and in regular attendance within the first 15 school days of the current semester (WIAA 23.17)
e. Have appropriate medical clearance from a medical authority (WIAA 23.18)
f. If a transfer or foreign exchange student, meet appropriate eligiblity requirements (WIAA 23.15, 23.20)
g. Be making reasonable annual progress toward graduation (ESD Policy #2152)
h. Maintain good citizenship records, both in and out of school (ESD Policy #2152)

2. Complete the activity clearance process through the EHS Athletic Office.
