Sarah Tenorio

Principal, Brío college Prep

After graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications, Sarah started her career as a 2010 Teach For America corps member in Northeast Los Angeles. She taught 8th grade English Language Arts for three years at a PUC school called Cals Charter Middle School. During her time at PUC, she launched a literacy initiative that included hosting family literacy-themed nights and a planning a school book drive. As a result of the drive she and her 8th graders raised over 500 books and were able to establish a small library in each English classroom at Cals. Additionally, she supported efforts to train new teachers by teaching in a summer learning lab and contributing instructional videos to the organization’s online resource page. She also served as a professional development facilitator at the organizations’ quarterly “Community of Practice” days.

In 2013, Sarah joined the Noble Network of Charter Schools in Chicago, IL, and she taught 9th grade reading at Golder College Prep. During her time at Golder she also mentored an advisory of 22 girls in academics and social emotional topics to support them in preparing for college and beyond. Other roles at Noble included co-sponsoring Golder’s first Black Student Union, writing network-level student assessments and leading professional development at quarterly network professional development days, leading as a 9th grade level chair and later leading as the humanities department chair.

Sarah is thrilled to be back in Los Angeles serving families in their path to positive multigenerational change as she transitions into her role as a founding principal in residence. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and son.
