Jerek brown
Principal, Ednovate arts & Media college Prep
Jerek Sharrod Brown is an International Baccalaureate (IB) student-turned-educator and native of Jackson, Mississippi. While presenting his senior capstone paper at the Freedom Riders’ 50-Year-Commemorative Conference, he received an offer to attend Morehouse College, a Historically Black College, in Atlanta, Georgia where he accepted the calling to enter the fight towards educational equity. While at Morehouse, Jerek expanded his knowledge of urban education through both instruction and research as he interned with Mentors of Minorities in Education in Washington, DC, and the Summer Training for Excellence in Education Research at UCLA. Jerek ultimately graduated summa cum laude with Phi Beta Kappa distinction, and was named valedictorian of the class with a degree in Political Science.
Jerek also holds a Master of Education degree in Teaching and Curriculum from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. After graduate school, he joined the Teach for America Corps in Atlanta, Georgia where he taught ninth and twelfth grade at North Atlanta International Baccalaureate High School. Under Mr. Brown’s tutelage, the scholars beat the IB world average in passing scores multiple years in a row. In 2019, Jerek joined the Alliance College-Ready Public School Charter Network as an instructional assistant principal at Dr. Olga Mohan High School. He was responsible for leading the ELA, Social Science, and ELD departments to measurable gains, as well as managing the schoolwide advisory and assessment programs.
Jerek is both humbled and eager to serve families here in Los Angeles and to promote positive multigenerational change as he transitions to his role as Principal of Ednovate’s newest school. Outside of work, he loves traveling, spending time with family and friends, as well as brunching on the weekends.
