Catherine Yuan

Principal, South LA college Prep

Born and raised in New York, Catherine Yuan moved across the country to attend University of Southern California. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology, complemented by minors in Psychology and Health Care Studies. After graduating, she joined Teach for America as a corps member in Bridgeport, Connecticut, teaching general science at the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center while she furthered her education at Johns Hopkins University, graduating with a Master of Science in Education.

In the midst of the pandemic in 2020, Ms. Yuan decided to move back to Los Angeles to join the founding team at South LA College Prep as a 9th Grade Biology Teacher. Three years later, she became the founding Assistant Principal of Student Services, creating memorable events and leadership opportunities for students.

Currently, she is pursuing her Doctorate in Education at the University of Southern California. As principal, she is proud and excited to build excellence and create Positive Multigenerational Change at South LA College Prep. Outside of school, Ms. Yuan enjoys running, biking, swimming and cooking delicious meals to stay creative!
