Nelson Families,

Wow, what a year!  2023-2024 saw our Nelson students shine brighter than ever this year in mind, body and spirit.  Nelson Elementary kicked off the year by finding out that they were the proud recipients of the CLASSI award.  Our History Day team won 1st place in the State!  Our students’ art won multiple contests and even had students’ work displayed in the Fresno County Office of Education!  Our school band, orchestra, oral interp., and Peach Blossom programs all won the highest honors in the school district by earning a rating of SUPERIOR, with orchestra receiving the only perfect score in the district!  We also added three new programs this year with AVID, Peer Mediators and the Multicultural Advisory Committee known as MAC and Kids.

Sports continue to soar to new heights with the numbers of athletes competing continuing to grow over last year.  Our athletic teams also competed at new levels with football, girls’ volleyball, boys’ basketball, and softball winning area championships.  Sports have also continued modernization with the purchase of amazing new boys’ and girls’ basketball uniforms and have plans for the upcoming year for volleyball and wrestling.   Special shout out to our Nelson PTC for fundraising and making those purchases possible.    Through all these competitions, our students have shown great character, pride, and respect and we could not be prouder.

Our teaching family continues to grow as we added 4 rockstar teachers to the roster in Mr. Emes, Mrs. Santos, Mrs. Steward, and Mrs. Waelty as well as our new psychologist Ms. Fonseca.  As always, our veteran retired teachers lead our young students with the likes of Mr. “Coach” Elia, Mrs. Swindel, Mrs. West, and of course, Mr. Goudy came back…. again!  As always, we will be sad to see our 6th graders leave and go to Kastner, but they are in excellent hands and will always have a family here.
