Measure A on November Ballot
Clovis Unified’s Measure A is on the ballot this November. Measure A is a facility bond measure that maintains a stable tax rate and would provide for:
  • Safety, energy efficiency and technology upgrades for ALL schools.
  • Modernization and repairs to aging schools.
  • Completion of our new high school to ease overcrowding.

Clovis High School Mathematics Department consists of nineteen outstanding instructors who teach courses through AP Calculus.  We are proud of offering several UC A-G approved courses that will prepare students to excel beyond high school. The department also offers after-school assistance to students with homework completion and test preparation through The GROWL. For additional resources, please visit MathHelp.cusd.com.

Math 1:
Mathematics 1 is the first of a three-year integrated math sequence that will help students see the relationships between algebra, geometry and statistics.  Students will formalize their previous study of functions by understanding function notation, domain and range.  They will analyze and interpret functions graphically, numerically, symbolically and verbally.  Students expand their prior knowledge about integer exponents to consider exponential functions and compare/contrast these with linear functions.  In Mathematics 1 students will also continue their study of expressions and equations from prior grades to analyze and explain the process of solving an equation or system of equations.  They will develop fluency writing, interpreting and translating between various forms of linear expressions, equations, and inequalities.

Math 2:
Mathematics 2 is the second of a three year integrated math sequence that will help students see the relationships between algebra, geometry and statistics.  In this course students are introduced to quadratic function and learn to compare them to exponential and linear functions that were studied in Mathematics 1.  Students see that quadratics can be used to represent circles and parabolas and use the distance formula and the Pythagorean Theorem from Mathematics 1 to aide in modeling them.  Students will understand that writing functions and expression in different forms can reveal key features that can be used to guide the solving of problems.  Students will need to explore the notion of the complex number system so that all quadratics can be solved.  They will explore the relationships between all of the different number systems.

Math 3:
Mathematics 3 is the last of the three year integrated math sequences, here instructional time focuses on four critical areas: (1) apply methods from probability and statistics to draw inferences and conclusions from data; (2) expand understanding of functions to include polynomial, rational, and radical functions; (3) expand right triangle trigonometry to include general triangles; and (4) consolidate functions and geometry to create models and solve contextual problems.

AP Computer Science Principles:
AP Computer Science Principles offers a multidisciplinary approach to teaching the underlying principles of computation. The course will introduce students to the creative aspects of programming, abstractions, algorithms, large data sets, the Internet, cybersecurity concerns, and computing impacts. AP Computer Science Principles also gives students the opportunity to use current technologies to create computational artifacts for both self-expression and problem solving. Together, these aspects of the course make up a rigorous and rich curriculum that aims to broaden participation in computer science.

Higher Math Coursework:
The CHS math department also offers advanced course work through our honors program (Honors Math 2 and Honors Math 3), Statistics/Probability, Advanced Math, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, and AP Statistics.

Other Available Courses:
Other courses include Math Tutorial, Foundations of Math 2, and Foundations of Math 3.
