Hydro aquifers

Mr. Carpio

Students in Mr. Carpio's sixth grade transitional class carried out an investigation to learn how water enters and flows through two samples of earth materials (sand and clay). They analyzed and interpreted the data they collected as the compared two different earth materials. In doing so, they learned that aquifers form in locations where water would flow through the sand layer on the top because there are tiny spaces between the sand particles that allow water to flow through. The water, however, would not flow through the clay layer because the spaces between clay particles are tiny and do not allow water to flow through. The water would then collect in the sand layer, which makes it an aquifer.
