Treatment

  • Treatment programs must consider the individual and any co-occurring or co-existing mental health needs of youth with substance disorders. Flexibility, availability, and treatment matching a client’s needs to available services are the most effective approach. Evidence-based practices for youth include protocols that are cognitive-behavioral and behavioral, family-oriented, and motivational. Treatment should emphasize the acquisitions of new abilities and skills to deal with obstacles and should also include ongoing mental health services, assessments, medication management, and family involvement.
