Mrs. Shelby DeMitry

Dear Canaseraga Community,
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter to you as the incoming principal of Canaseraga Central School District. It is truly an honor and privilege to become a member of the Canaseraga family and community. Even though I have only had limited contact and interaction with the faculty, staff, and board of education, I can tell that this is a unique and special school district to be joining. I am truly excited to become a member of such a terrific district.
I come to you with 20 years of educational experience. I started my educational experience as a teacher’s aide, moved into a teaching assistant position, then moved into an AIS provider role, technology instructor PreK-6, reading instructor for K-1, coached volleyball/softball, character education coordinator PreK-6, and general education teacher. Most recently, I have spent the past six years as a special educator,
starting with a 12:1:3 classroom then moved into an Integrated Co-Teaching classroom for grades 5 and 6. During this time, I also served as a Co-Athletic Director, RTI member, PBIS coach/facilitator, FLASHP/Wellness Coordinator for the district, and 2021 summer school
principal for the Jr./Sr. high summer school program. My entire 20 years was spent with the Dundee Central School District.
In addition to my role as an educator and leader, I am a mother and a wife. My son Hunter graduated from Finger Lakes Community College in 2021 and is employed full time with Wilmorite Security. My husband Tom owns his own mechanical contracting business, DeMitry & Sons, Inc. I am also “mom” to Stew, my Miniature Shih Tzu who was a rescue and our newest addition, Henry a 15 week old French Bull Dog.
The remaining few weeks of summer will be spent working with Mr. Groff to ensure a smooth transition. I look forward to getting to know our building, our community, and familiarizing myself with the needs of our school. My areas of focus are the students, faculty/staff, and the
parents/community. My goal is to provide a supportive climate and culture at Canaseraga that is conducive to teaching and learning.
I am truly honored to be given this opportunity and look forward to immersing myself in our school and community. I look forward to supporting the teachers and providing them with the best opportunities to help our students succeed. I cannot wait to meet all of you! I hope everyone is as excited as I am for the start of the school year. I look forward to celebrating our successes during 2022-2023 school year.

Kind Regards,

Shelby DeMitry
Principal
