Mr. Edward M. Harper, Jr.

Mr. Harper has been the Director of Bands at Concord High School since January of 2017. Prior to teaching at Concord High, Mr. Harper served as the band director and music theory teacher at South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC. In May of 2013, he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in  Music Education from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he studied Saxophone with Dr. Will Campbell. He has received various awards for music and leadership including the Louis Armstrong Jazz, Semper Fidelis and TIAA-Creff Jazz Scholarship Awards and is also an alumni brother of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Service Fraternity and member of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. Mr. Harper is also the 2017 recipient of the American School Band Directors Association Ed Rooker Encore Award, designated for teachers early in their career that show great potential and excellence in music education.

Mr. Harper is an active member of the musical community surrounding Concord High. He performs as a member of the Rowan Big Band All-Stars and the Piedmont Primetime Community Band in Kannapolis.

In his time as a music educator, Mr. Harper has been fortunate to teach, conduct and work with many fine student and professional musicians and composers. These musicians, composers and conductors include, Robert W. Smith, David Holsinger, and Jeff Coffin and Rashawn Ross of the Dave Matthews Band. Mr. Harper's ensembles have also received Superior Ratings at NCBA Marching Band MPA,  SCDBA Concert Band MPA and Western Region Jazz Ensemble MPA events.

Mr. Harper resides in Concord, NC with his wife, Amanda, their sons Patrick and Nathan. Mrs. Harper is a proud Spider Band Alumni (Class of '01), Trumpet player and life-long lover of music.
