Mr. Tony DeFazio

Hi, this is Mr. D! I am excited to be back at Concord, where I will teach English I, English I MYP, and Sports Media & Journalism. Before coming to Concord in 2019, I taught ELA at a middle school in West Charlotte. Prior to that, I spent more than two decades as a sports writer and editor. I've worked hard to bring some of the skills and life lessons I learned in the newspaper business into the classroom, where I am excited to engage with your students. I'm also excited to teach Sports Media & Journalism again this year, where I look forward to using our shared love of sports to develop a deeper love of reading, writing, and language.

I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but I have lived in North Carolina since 2009. I am a sports enthusiast, especially college sports, and a lover of various genres of music. Outside of school, I like to spend time with family: my wife Erin (also an English teacher), my daughter Evie (21 and a sophomore at Appalachian State) and son Donovan (19 and a freshman at CPCC), and our dog Gus.

I am also looking forward to having Anna Cagle, a student teacher from UNC-Charlotte, in the classroom with me the first semester. Ms. Cagle will be a co-teacher, eventually assuming full teaching responsibilities during the semester. She will be a benefit to our students.
