KINDERGARTEN PREPARATION

● Clothing - loose, comfortable
● Bathroom - work on using bathroom Independently
● Supplies - provided by BPS
● Backpack - appropriate size  

PARENT COMMUNCATION & ENGAGMENT
- Conferences: November/December and Spring (as needed)
- Report Cards: January and June
ParentSquare: Primary platform for communication
- Volunteer opportunities (school/classroom specific):
CORI’s need to be completed at your individual school’s main office

READINESS
How to Prepare My Child...
- Talk to your child about going to kindergarten, be enthusiastic to decrease anxiety
- Visit the school during school sponsored events; play on the playground
- Develop routines - sleeping and eating
- Encourage socialization
- Work on being responsible/independent: Cleaning up after play, dressing themselves, using the bathroom independently
- Social Stories for children who have difficulty with new situations
- Read to your child every day
- Tell stories to your child
- Have conversations with your child, encourage them to ask questions
- Let your child see you read
- Make math fun

SOCIAL SKILLS
My child can...
- Listen to simple adult directions and follow through
- Can attend for 10 minutes
- Can play independently
- Is interested in peers and is interested in playing in small group activities
- Can separate from their caregiver
- Is able to transition between activities
