It allows you to scroll through the universe according to the size of objects as measure in metric powers of 10. For example you can zoom in to see that a coffee bean is roughly 10 to the power of -2.2 meters large or zoom out to see that Mt. Everest is roughly 10 to the power of 3.9 meters large. -
