The mathematics department at Brighton High School offers a variety of courses. After successful completion of the Algebra II or Functions and Statistics course, students may choose from among several courses for their fourth and sometimes fifth year of mathematics. Mathematics Department Courses

There are three New York State Mathematics Regents Exams. The Algebra 1 (Common Core) Regents exam is an end of course exam for the Algebra I and the Algebra I Honors course. The Geometry (Common Core) Regents exam is an end of course exam for the Geometry and the Geometry Honors courses. The Algebra 2 (Common Core) Regents exam is an end of course exam for the Algebra 2 and Algebra 2 Honors courses.

Algebra 1

• 24 Multiple choice questions, 2 points each, no partial credit
• 8 Free Response questions, 2 points each, partial credit allowed
• 4 Free Response questions, 4 points each, partial credit allowed
• 1 Free Response questions, 6 points each, partial credit allowed

Geometry

• 24 Multiple choice questions, 2 points each, no partial credit
• 7 Free Response questions, 2 points each, partial credit allowed
• 3 Free Response questions, 4 points each, partial credit allowed
• 1 Free Response questions, 6 points, partial credit allowed

Algebra 2

• 24 Multiple choice questions, 2 points each, no partial credit
• 8 Free Response questions, 2 points each, partial credit allowed
• 4 Free Response questions, 4 points each, partial credit allowed
• 1 Free Response questions, 6 points each, partial credit allowed

To earn a Regents Diploma from New York State, a student must earn three mathematics credits. Typically, those three credits are earned at Brighton High School by successful completion of the Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II courses. In addition, students must pass the Algebra 1 (Common Core) Regents exam with a 65.

To earn a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation from New York State, a student must still earn three mathematics credits. However, students additionally must pass all three mathematics Regents exams, Algebra 1 (Common Core), Geometry (Common Core), Algebra 2 (Common Core) with a 65.
