A Message from the Superintendent
Dear Members of the Brighton School Community,
I hope that this newsletter finds all of you well and enjoying all that the 2023-24 school year has had to offer. At the time of this writing, we’re knee-deep in the second semester and beginning to turn the corner toward the last quarter of the year. It’s been an exciting year of students being highly engaged, the community being very involved, and our staff working tirelessly on behalf of each and every child.
Our annual Brighton Believes Day of Caring was held on March 13 this year. An amazing array of activities and projects were completed in service to a number of service organizations and groups throughout our community and the greater Rochester area. Of all the lessons learned and rigorous experiences our students have, it is this day that exemplifies their spirit of giving, kindness, and putting others above themselves. We’re so proud of the impact that this day has, but also the lessons in service that it provides. Great work, Bruins, and thanks to our PTSA and community members for their support.
The PTSA also provides incredible support for the Festival of Ideas. Thanks, once again, to the entire committee and leaders, like former School Board Member Martha Sciremammano, for their tireless dedication to providing 3rd through 8th graders a truly unique day of learning and growing in so many different ways. What a day!Other exciting events have included the Vocal Prism Concert, the District-Wide Strings Concert, and the staff dodgeball games to benefit the senior class among many others. A week does not seem to go by without our students and their families being involved in performances, events, and activities that bring people together and connect our school community through enjoyable experiences.
Finally, thank you to everyone for their support of the capital improvement program through a very positive vote in favor of the next phase of work. As we plan future work and this year’s proposed budget, we will continue to focus on balancing efficiency, affordability for the community, rigorous programming for all students, and maintaining excellence aligned with our annual strategic plan.
Best wishes for a successful last quarter of the year. Onward and upward for every child, every day, every way.
Kevin McGowan, Ed.D.
