Special Education

  • Council Rock Primary School (CRPS) offers different services to serve all students in the least restrictive environment, while supporting individual educational needs. We work in partnership with teachers and families to ensure that students are the primary focus and receive a quality education. Below are the services we provide to ensure the success of our students with disabilities.

    Special Education Services

Brighton strives to provide appropriate educational programs and services to meet all students’ needs. Federal and State regulations additionally proscribe procedures to be followed with students who have disabilities.

CRPS offers consultant teacher services in the general classroom for ELA and Math. The services include direct work with the student in the class and/or with the classroom teacher to prepare materials, modify delivery of instruction or design appropriate interventions. Services are provided by one of our three Special Education teachers.

We also provide resource room services for students with disabilities. Students are provided instruction in small groups.

Special self-contained classes are designed for students who need a small, structured environment. At CRPS we have multiple models based on the needs of our students.

We also provide speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and counseling to students who qualify.

    504 Plans

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a Federal civil rights statute that guarantees the rights of disabled individuals to equal opportunity in school programs and activities. A student is eligible if they have an impairment that affects their learning. Eligibility is based on multiple sources of evaluations that may include medical reports, achievement tests, teacher information, work samples, etc. Once the eligibility criteria are met, the school 504 team and parent/guardian will meet to develop an accommodation plan based on the student's needs.
