    School Calendar

    Dear Parents,

I moved here over seven years ago from Kalispell, MT.  I arrived with a Bachelor’s Education and a Master’s in Education and a Master’s in STEM.  I am now going on my sixteenth year of teaching in the Avondale District.  I have taught 6th, 7th, 8th grade Science and Social Studies.  I have taught all subjects in 4th and 5th grades.
I am the advisor for our Green Team elective.  I can give you great tips on helping to save the planet.  I am also the  advisor for our CSO, Chief Science Officers.  In the life before the pandemic I was the Drama teacher and we actually put on plays.  When we get the green light, we will start that up again.
About the class your student will fit into one of three categories. K-2, 3-5 or 6-8.  I do see all the students, so when you email me please include the grade and homeroom teacher.  It just makes it easier to get the correct information you want.
K-2  I will be using KidSpark Education.  I will be teaching them Science, Technology, Engineering, and  Math with block manipulatives.  They will be designing and engineering solutions to different problems presented to them.  They will also be building their designs with blocks. I will be using the Next Generation Science Standards.  Students will be building on their natural curiosity to learn about Science through hands-on activities, experiments, and art.
3-5 I will be using KidSpark Education.  I will be teaching them Science, Technology, Engineering, and  Math with block manipulatives.  They will be designing and engineering solutions to different problems presented to them.  They will also be building their designs with blocks.
6-8 I will be using the Paxton Patterson Lab with this group.  The purpose of the lab is to expose your students to different careers in the STEM field.  They will be doing this through investigations and hands-on labs. They will complete an activity a day and will complete a self-reflection exit ticket every day.  The other way they will earn points will be based on hands-on activities.
Homework:  All work will be completed in class.  I do not assign homework and I give them time to complete work in class.
I am available to answer any of your questions or concerns as they come up.  I can be reached by e-mail posborn@chooseAESD.org.  This is the best way to reach me during school hours.  I will get back to you as soon as possible.
I am looking forward to working with you and your child. This is going to be an exciting year.
Again, welcome to the wonderful world of STEM.
