Health and Safety

  • Health Services

A health assistant is on site five days a week and a nurse is on call during all school hours to ensure and improve the health of students and staff at Rosemary Kennedy Elementary School.  However, children are never diagnosed or treated for illness or injury at school.  Only first aid is permitted by law.  If a child is injured, has a fever or displays other symptoms of illness, the parent/guardian on the emergency card will be notified.  Your child must then be picked up as soon as possible, both for his/her protection as well as that of the other students and staff.  If the parent/guardian cannot be reached, we will attempt to contact the alternate emergency numbers listed on your child’s registration card.

    Please note:

    • It is essential a student’s address, phone number, and emergency contacts are kept current.  Please notify the office immediately of any changes.
    • Medications are given only with written permission from the physician and the parent.  Medication forms are available in the office.
    • If your child has any special health needs, please inform our school secretary and health clear as soon as possible.

    Medication

If your child requires medication during the day, please contact the office prior to sending the medication.  All prescription medication must be clearly labeled.  No medication (prescription or over-the-counter) will be accepted without a current medication form signed by the parent and physician.  The medication form must be updated each year or whenever there is a change prescribed by the doctor.  Medication will be given only by trained office personnel.  UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE STUDENTS TO HAVE MEDICATION (INLCUDING OVER THE COUNTER) OF ANY KIND IN THEIR POSSESSION WHILE AT SCHOOL!

    Emergency Card Information

It is required that all parents complete an Emergency Card for each of their children.  This tells us how to contact you or another responsible adult if your child becomes ill or injured at school.  Please notify the office immediately, if your address, phone numbers, work locations, or adult contacts change during the school year.

    Bicycles, Skateboards, Rollerblades, Roller-skates, Scooters

Students in grades 4-5 may have the privilege of riding their bikes to school.  Parents have the responsibility of make sure bikes are safe.  Site principal and parent will meet to discuss the specific routes the student will take to and from school to ensure student safety. Reckless and/or unsafe riding practices may result in the denial of bike riding privileges.  Bicycles are to be walked on sidewalks while on school grounds.  Bicycles must be kept in the bike rack area and must be locked (only one bicycle per lock).  Bicycle riders must observe proper safety rules.  A helmet for your child’s safety is mandated by state law. The use of bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, roller-skates, or scooters on school grounds is prohibited at all times.
