Wells Middle School opened its doors in the fall of 1961 on the campus of Norte Vista High School.  Upon the completion of the campus, students were moved to the present-day site in February of 1962.  Wells has served the Arlanza neighborhood of Riverside, California for the past 53 years.  

Wells Middle School has undergone a major renovation.  The campus now has a new two-story classroom building with new restrooms, teacher workspace and 18 classrooms with modern technology.  The campus also has a new main office and library complex and is the first middle school in the Alvord Unified School District to have a gymnasium.  The site is also had a kitchen and MPR renovation project completed in 2019.

Wells Middle School's mascot was the warrior for the first 50 years of our history.  In 2012, Wells staff, students and families joined together to change our mascot.  After much discussion and approvals, our mascot was changed to a phoenix.  Standing for success, beauty, resiliency and reformation, we feel the phoenix represents us as a learning community.

Wells Middle School staff and students are proud of the rich history of this school and look forward to the many years of excellence to come.
