While there is no perfect formula to determine if your child is truly ready for Kindergarten, the following checklist includes skills that most Kindergarten-aged children have accomplished.
Sit and listen to a story
Recognize rhyming sounds
Cut with scissors
Write first name
Share with others
Speak clearly in 5-6 word sentences
Identify most alphabet letters
Identify the beginning sound of some words
Sort similar objects by color, size, and shape
Count to 10
Separate from parents without becoming upset
Be able to recognize authority
Understand the importance of classroom rules
Pay attention for short periods of time to adult-directed tasks
