        While there is no perfect formula to determine if your child is truly ready for Kindergarten, the following checklist includes skills that most Kindergarten-aged children have accomplished.

         

        Sit and listen to a story

      • Recognize rhyming sounds

      • Cut with scissors

      • Write first name

      • Share with others

      • Speak clearly in 5-6 word sentences

      • Identify most alphabet letters

      • Identify the beginning sound of some words

      • Sort similar objects by color, size, and shape

      • Count to 10

      • Separate from parents without becoming upset

      • Be able to recognize authority

      • Understand the importance of classroom rules

      • Pay attention for short periods of time to adult-directed tasks
