Mr. Matt Massey serves as the President of the Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering - a public state magnet school. The school will open to students in the Fall of 2020 with an initial enrollment of approximately 100 students with plans to expand to 300.
Mr. Massey was the superintendent of the Madison County School System (MCSS) from January 2015 to July 2019. Approximately 19,000 Pk-12 students attend the 27 MCSS schools. In his 19 years with MCSS, Massey taught a variety of math courses including AP Calculus and served as the System Math Lead Teacher for five years.
In 2017, Mr. Massey was recognized as the Alabama District 9 Superintendent of the Year and was a finalist for State Superintendent of the Year. Currently, he serves as the District 9 President of the School Superintendents of Alabama.
Massey is a lifelong educator who is a National Board certified teacher. He also teamed with A+ College Ready Alabama and the National Math and Science Initiative in coordination with the Department of Defense. Through this, Massey provided professional development for teachers and worked directly with students in school districts throughout Alabama and across the country.
Mr. Massey advocates for students across the State of Alabama and served in a variety of leadership roles chairing committees for the Alabama High School Athletics Association, the Strategic Math Committee, and the Teacher Shortage Task Force State Department of Education.
As Superintendent, Mr. Massey ignited an Advanced Placement initiative in which MCSS became the state leader in AP enrollment and qualifying scores earning college credit. The MCSS’s AP enrollment exceeded 3,000 with over 1,100 Qualifying scores in each of the last two years.
Mr. Massey holds a BS in Secondary Math Education from Troy University, an MS in Mathematics from the University of Mississippi, and MS & EDS in Education Leadership from Samford University. Mr. Massey and his wife, Jenny, have three children: Jessie, Cooper, and Tucker whom all reside in Huntsville.
