Dear Parents/ Guardians,
For the 2023-2024 school year HG Temple Intermediate will continue makischool a phone free space to improve teaching and learning using the Yondr system. We have found that learning and social behavior improve drastically when students are fully engaged with their teachers and classmates. Each student that will be bringing their phone to school will be issued a YONDR pouch. This pouch can be decorated with "school appropriate" art if the student wishes.
The YONDR Program utilizes a simple, secure pouch that stores a phone. Upon arrival at school,students will set their cell phones, Air pods, Apple Watches, or Fitbits on airplane mode or off and place them in a Yondr locking pouch which will remain in their possession throughout the day. At the conclusion of the school day, students will pass through stations to unlock their Yondr pouch. Students are responsible for bringing the pouch each day they bring a cell phone/ device. Students will have
access to their phones for afterschool activities. In case of a school emergency, pouches will be unlocked
so students can have access.
Students will be charged a $15 replacement fee for Yondr pouches that are lost, damaged, or destroyed. Administration will have random YONDR pouch checks to make sure students are complying with school policy.
If a student damages their pouch or is caught with their phone outside of a secured Yondr pouch, the
following disciplinary actions will be taken:
- 1st offense - Administration will collect the phone/Pouch and call home for a Parent Pickup.
- 2nd offense - Administration will collect the phone/Pouch and call home for a Parent
Pickup and a Lunch Detention / After School Detention.
3rd offense - Administration will collect the phone/Pouch and call home for a Parent
Meeting/Pickup and a Lunch Detention / After School Detention.
- 4th offense - Administration will collect the phone/Pouch and call home for a Parent
Pickup and ISS
**Additional offenses: After the fourth offense, the student's actions will be considered insubordination and
their phones will no longer be allowed on campus. Further insubordination could result in a DAEP
placement.
In some circumstances and in accordance with law, a student's personal telecommunications
device may be searched by authorized personnel. [See Searches on page 81 and policy FNF for more
information.] Any disciplinary action will be in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. The district
is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen telecommunications devices.
