As we open our new elementary schools, with all three being completed by the fall of 2023, it is the ideal time to consider any changes to our existing attendance zones, maximizing the new spaces in order to more efficiently zone students and families into schools that are as close as possible to their homes. Attendance Zones are the lines that are applied to determine where a child attends elementary school.
All three of our elementary schools provide excellent learning environments for our students, and over the past several years, our curriculum teams have created consistency in the educational programs at all schools, ensuring that all of our students will receive the same high-quality education no matter their location. Please note that this discussion does not impact our specialized programs that are located in specific schools, including special education and ESL programs.
For the purpose of studying Attendance Zones, the School Committee has established an Ad Hoc School Attendance Zone Committee, with two parents from each of the three elementary schools, the three elementary principals, two School Committee members, the Director of Finance and Operations, the registrar, and a representative from the City Planning Department. The dates for the meetings are as follows: January 12, January 26, February 9, February 17 from 6:30-8:30 at the Cunniff Elementary School.
If you are interested in serving on this committee and are able to attend all four of the meetings, please send an email describing your interest to Susan Clark at
[email protected] by Thursday, December 23.
Thank you for considering serving on this important committee,
Dede Galdston, Superintendent of Schools
