Hosmer: Did You Know?
Attendance Matters!
Students in Massachusetts are considered chronically absent if they miss a total of 18 days of school (10%) of the year. This total includes both excused and unexcused absences. Being out one or two days per month can add up quickly! In the coming week, we will be communicating with families of students who have missed five or more days of school. This communication is required, even if we are already aware of prolonged illness, so please be patient with us.
In addition to significantly impacting student learning, "chronically absent" students impact the school's accountability rating which is determined by the Department of Education.
For these reasons we ask that families avoid vacations during the school year.
