Reading Initiative Link to Smore
On Monday, November 29th we will launch a school-wide reading initiative. We will host weekly school-wide reading-centered activities and reading-spirit days that reinforce the building of good independent reading habits. We will also begin to emphasize that the majority of homework assigned at all grade levels will be reading-related. We are planning a January Read-A-Thon and a February Cunniff Book Fair event. Details to follow in next week's smore!
We are a week away from our Wild About Reading school-wide kickoff! I will be sending out a newsletter focusing on this right after the Thanksgiving holiday. We will have a WILD ABOUT READING school-wide Spirit Day on Friday, December 1. Students, faculty, and staff will be able to show their enthusiasm for reading through their clothing. We will also be hosting a flash reading of the text Wild About Books by Judy Sierra. Two copies of the book will travel around the school. Teachers will briefly stop what they are doing, read the text aloud, and then pass the book on. Our goal is to accomplish getting the book read school-wide in one day! Thank you, Mrs. Rono (reading specialist) for this idea. Stay tuned to the Wild About Books smore. It will be issued next weekend!
