Fifth- and sixth-grade students in the School District of Washington participated in a Math Madness competition at Washington High School on Tuesday evening, April 12.
Washington High School’s Mu Alpha Theta hosted the math competition. The elementary students divided into small teams, representing their schools, and worked on a series of mathematical problems, equations and solutions.
Points were totaled following every round.
There were prizes awarded to the best decorated student table, the top three highest scoring teams, and a prize for an individual student who could recite the most decimal places of Pi.
Rhylee Naughton from South Point Elementary recited 62 correct decimal places of Pi.
Gift certificates were donated by Dairy Queen and Neighborhood Reads.
Proceeds from the event go toward the Jordan Scheer Children’s Relay for Life.
